It is India's largest saline lake and is the source of most of Rajasthan's salt production. It produces 196,000 tonnes of clean salt every year, which equates to around 9% of India's salt production. Salt is produced by evaporation process of brine and is mostly managed by Sambhar Salts Ltd.(SSL), a joint venture of the Hindustan Salts Ltd. and the state government. SSL owns 3% of the eastern lake.
We meet at your accommodation with Royal Enfield Motorcycles. After a short briefing from tour leader we start our ride to Sambhar Town which is about 85 kms from Jaipur.
We reach our destination Sambhar. Explore the town and its worth seeing largest salt lake. It is a paradise for the bird watchers as you can see a vast pale-pink concourse of birds, perhaps 20,000 to 30,000 strong, can be seen shifting and murmuring in the glassy water and dark mud. Occasionally, a large group would fly low over the water and settle at another spot, touching down with the lightest of flouncing. There are many other species to be appreciated too. Storks, sandpipers, redshanks, black-winged stilts, coots, and shovelers float somnolently in the water. After lake visit to Shakambari Mata temple (Indian Goddess). Local people beleive that this lake is a gift from Shakambari Mata to them. This temple is a famous among people of Rajasthan. Start riding towards a village known as Pachkodia which is 35 kms from Sambhar Town.
As we reach Fatehgarh - a farm in Pachkodia village. On arrival you will be welcomed with our soulful folk music and welcome drinks. Twist you tounge with delecious Rajasthani Thali in lunch at farm. Post lunch enjoy camel or camel cart ride around the village and experience the local life of people engaging in their daily activities. A visit to government school (if open) where we can distribute notebooks and pencils provided by us and can interact with children. Return to farm and enjoy demonstration of Turban tying for men and sari drapping for women will be organised at farm with live music. Visit in the hall of Fatehgarh wnere you see the collection of antique books and photographs of H.H. Maharaja of Jaipur during his visit to Village.
We will start riding back to Jaipur spotting the Rajasthan's golden sunset with a Tea Break enroute at a roadside resturant called as Dhaba.
